Saturday, November 12, 2022 @ 3:00pm & 7:30pm — Icons Dee Dee Bridgewater and Savion Glover perform jazz, dance, and improvisation. Savion Glover is a Tony-winning choreographer and famed hoofer. He began his Broadway career with The Tap Dance Kid and continued with Black and Blue, Jelly's Last Jam, and Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk. He's played with McCoy Tyner, Roy Haynes, and Jack DeJohnette. Tap, starring Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis, Jr.; Bamboozled; Happy Feet and Happy Feet Two. As NJPAC's dance adviser and board member, he's committed to arts education programming through Summer Intensives.
Grammy and Tony Award-winning jazz giant Dee Dee Bridgewater has risen to the top of vocalists, putting her own stamp on standards and re-imagining jazz classics. The three-time Grammy winner most recently won for Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959): To Billie With Love From Dee Dee. Bridgewater’s career has always bridged musical genres. Tickets range from $59-$69.
Wednesday, November 16, 2022 @ 7:00pm — TDJames Moody Jazz Festival: Carolyn Dorfman Dance Jazz Legends and The Power of Now! Carolyn Dorfman Dance returns to NJPAC's TDJames Moody Jazz Festival. This performance comprises Carolyn Dorfman and Juel D. Lane's Jazz Legends and The Power of Now! choreographed to live music by jazz violinist Regina Carter and trumpet icon Louis Prima. These artists take you on a heart-pounding roller coaster ride of life's journeys, resulting in joy. Carolyn Dorfman Dance is "musical, magical, and full of surprises," says Limón Dance Company. Jennifer Weber directed and choreographed this contemporary dance spectacle, which combines hip hop dancing and Tchaikovsky's ageless music. A dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and MC Kurtis Blow, one of hip hop's founding fathers, perform in The Hip Hop Nutcracker. Sunday, December 18, 2022 @ 3:00pm — The Nutcracker: State Ballet Theater of Ukraine. An annual tradition at NJPAC, The State Ballet Theater of Ukraine premiered this altered version of The Nutcracker in Dnipro, Ukraine, in 2020. With the pandemic continuously interfering with the project, choreography and design took several months to complete. The ballet company is one of Ukraine's most prestigious, and it has delighted audiences worldwide. Tickets range from $39-$89.
Sunday, January 15, 2023 @ 6:00pm — Sleeping Beauty: State Ballet Theater of Ukraine. Sleeping Beauty is one of Tchaikovsky's most renowned ballets. The State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine performs Marius Petipa's choreography on a princess condemned to sleep for 100 years. Sleeping Beauty was Tchaikovsky's best piece, and audiences of all ages adore the bright costumes, joyous music, and enchanting fairytale love story. Tickets range from $39-$89.
Saturday-Sunday January 21-22, 2023 @ 2:00pm — Nai-Ni Chen's Black Water Rabbit. NJPAC has presented a Lunar New Year celebration with Nai-Ni Chen Dance for 20 years. In 202 Company honors the Black Water Rabbit. The show combines traditional Chinese dancing with modern flair. The Red Lions dance to a hip hop beat. The Golden Dragon provides luck for the year. The Ailey group is one of the best international ambassadors of American culture, promoting African American culture and American modern dance.
