Vardalos will serve as both the director and the movie's leading lady, Toula Portokalos.

According to rumors, Toula and Ian's (John Corbett) daughter Paris' wedding will take place in Greece.

When Vardalos first made the My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 announcement last April, the Covid-19 outbreak was causing complications. Michael Constantine, who passed away in August 2021, will be honored in the third installment.

In the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Toula, a single employee at her family's restaurant, is continually pressured by her ethnically Greek parents to find a Greek husband and raise a family. She meets an American teacher, much to their dismay, and eventually marries him. Initially disappointed that she didn't wed a fellow Greek, her family eventually comes to love and embrace Ian for who he is—a decent man who adores Toula without conditions.

In the 2016 follow-up to the movie, Toula and Ian are raising their 17-year-old daughter in the home that her parents gave to them. Toula and Ian are trying to reignite the spark in their marriage, which has grown stale. Gus (Constantine) and Maria (Lainie Kazan), Toula's parents, are also having relationship issues. They are the couple that eventually walk down the aisle after Gus unintentionally discovers their marriage certificate was never formally signed by a priest.

Paris, played by Elena Kampouris, was last seen in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, inviting her longtime crush Bennett (Alex Wolff) to prom, which is held the same night as her grandparents' wedding. Although it hasn't been confirmed, the movie's climax suggests that Paris will wed Bennett, who likewise comes from a noisy and nosy Greek family.
