Everyone Loves Ryan Gosling - Except As 'Barbie' Movie's Older Ken?

Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig, both of whom have been nominated for multiple Oscars, wrote and will direct the upcoming comedy. Since the first Mattel doll came out 63 years ago, Barbie and her "perfect" boyfriend Ken have never been in a live-action movie that was shown in a theater.

The movie has been in the works for a very long time. The first rumors about it being made came out in 2009. As it stands, Barbie has a great cast. Margot Robbie plays the title role, and Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, and, of course, Gosling are also in the movie. The movie about Barbie is being made in England right now, and the official release date is July 21, 2023.

Even though we don't know much about the movie yet, those who can't wait to see what Barbie has to offer recently got a surprise. Some people were happy to see the first picture of Gosling as Ken, but others thought the 41-year-old actor was too old to play Barbie's famous boyfriend. The Independent says that the new image of Ken has sparked a lot of discussion online, with some people calling the casting "insane."

In the story of Barbie, Ken met his perfect match on the set of a TV commercial in 1961. He and Barbie have been around for a while, but the movie sets them in the present and doesn't use their real ages. Fans are probably more bothered by the fact that Robbie and Gosling are ten years apart in age, which makes it seem like Gosling isn't quite young enough to play the role. Gosling's new picture shows off his six-pack abs, spray tan, and bleach blonde hair, all of which make him look like a pretty funny "perfect" boyfriend.

Back in April, Margot Robbie's first look in the title role was shown at CinemaCon. Fans were also very excited to see the Oscar-nominated actor in her Barbie outfit. In addition to Robbie and Gosling, the movie will also feature Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), America Ferrera (Superstore), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Alexandra Shipp (Tick, Tick,...Boom!), Will Ferrell (Anchorman), Issa Rae (Insecure), Michael Cera (Superbad), and Ariana Greenblatt (Avengers: Infinity War).

Even if online fans don't like Gosling as Ken, it's hard to argue that he looks great for his age. Being called too old for the role sounds like the ageism Jason Momoa had to deal with in 2019 when trolls said he had a "dad bod." The bottom line, though, is that Barbie has a good chance of being worth people's time just because it was written by Gerwig and Baumbach and will be directed by Gerwig. This is true no matter how much the movie changes the story of Barbie.
