Next Generation's 2nd Indie Film Awards Honor Great Movies, Shorts, Videos, Web Series and More
The first-ever Luminary Award was handed to Oscar-nominated director Rian Johnson. Mr. Johnson accepted the indie movie association's top honor. In his pre-recorded video acceptance speech, he encouraged the present filmmakers. Instagram live-streamed the event.
Amanda Roddy and Nicholas Bruckman's Not Going Quietly won Best Overall Film. Hulu streams the documentary. In addition to a trophy, the Best Overall Film winner received a $150,000 prize package that included studio space in Los Angeles, production supplies and equipment, camera packages, post-production services (such as editing, sound mixing, color grading, and digital final mastering), a private film screening, and an AFM Executive Plus Badge for AFM 2022. Not Going Quietly won Best Documentary.
Best Narrative Feature was Definition Please. Sujata Day directed and produced with Cameron Fife, Datari Turner, Ritesh Rajan. Netflix streams the film.
Cole Hauser received Best Actor for The Last Champion. Glenn Withrow's inspirational film is available on Google Play Movies, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.
Frances Fisher received Best Supporting Actress for This Is Not a War Story. HBO Max now has Talia Lugacy's drama.
Quinton Aaron (The Blind Side) joined host Calum Worthy on stage to present Fabian Jaray with his award.
Co-founder Therese "Tag" Goulet was "thrilled to reward the future generation of indie filmmakers."

The 2022 Grand Reward Winner got over $150,000 in production and rental credits to shoot their next project in Los Angeles. Prize packages include rentals from Quixote and MBS Equipment Co., props from ISS Props, Final Draft software, a camera package from Keslow Camera, post-production services from Sugar Studios LA, and more. ABOUT NEXT GENERATION INDIE FILM AWARDS
The Next Generation Indie Film Awards were established in 2020, and the inaugural event was held in Hollywood in 2021. The Next Generation Indie Book Awards, which were established in 2008, are the largest awards program in the world for independent authors and publishers. It was developed and built by serial entrepreneur Catherine Goulet.
Catherine, Andrew Jenkins, and Therese "Tag" Goulet launched the Next Generation Indie Film Awards Foundation from the book awards program. Film producer and philanthropist Tag Goulet has financed more than 100 independent films by student filmmakers, including two from Santa Monica College that showed at Cannes.
Andrew Jenkins is an actor, producer, and businessman. Andrew's childhood friend Calum Worthy joined the nonprofit as a founder in 2022.
This multigenerational group of pioneers has a stake in the future of independent film and created a global awards program. Filmmakers can network at yearly galas and meet prominent industry members.
Next Generation Indie Film Awards are given for both long and short films, as well as the best music video, web series, first-time director, LGBTQ+ director, BIPOC director, animated film, student film, and best documentary.
